Zion was born 11/26/14 with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). He was undiagnosed until 2 weeks after birth. It’s no surprise that when these things happen, you are in shock. We were feeling all sorts of worry and stress, fear and anxiousness. Not too long after we put word out about Zion’s heart, we were contacted by members of Help-A-Heart. They offered emotional support and a listening ear, they pointed us in the direction of who we needed to talk to and what they offered. THIS is where the impact was for us. We knew we were NOT alone. God was with us, and so were a whole lot of other compassionate people going through the same things with their children, right here in Iowa. Zion was initially set to have surgery at 6 months of age- but he kept defying the odds. He had his first open heart surgery at the age of 2 on 1/12/17. Today he gets to play and be a little boy without many limitations- There are always questions, that won’t ever go away- but Help-A-Heart alleviated some of those and gave us some much needed peace and hope. The support that Help-A-Heart has shown, the compassion for wanting to know our story and help our family- is something we are truly grateful for. Help a Heart is actively serving families, constantly praying for them, and always in touch. You can’t put a price on that. COMMUNITY. Heart Heroes provides custom superhero capes for these children fighting CHD every day. You can see Zion sporting his in the video. Thank God for Help-A-Heart and Heart Heroes!
